A Canterbury University student is in a critical condition after falling from a balcony at a UC hall of residence this morning.
Emergency services were called to the incident at Ilam Apartments, Homestead Lane, at 2.20am on Friday.
The person's flatmates also provided assistance.
A St John spokesperson said the patient was taken to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition.
A Canterbury University spokesperson confirmed the victim is a first-year student, who is studying an engineering degree.
Said UC executive director of student services and communications Lynn McClelland: "Our focus right now is on supporting our students, and the friends and family of those affected."
