When firefighters arrived at the Harewood Rd fire this morning at about 7am, the blaze was already "well involved' but the family were safely out, said Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman Simon Lyford
Two crews from Harewood and Redwood attended.
The cause of the fire is unknown and a fire investigator has been called in.
