When police went to pull over a "suspicious" motor-cyclist on Monday morning, the rider took off and led them on a brief chase along a busy Christchurch road.
Police say they attempted to stop the motor-cyclist on Cranford St about 7.45am.

The rider fled and police followed in pursuit, but the chase was abandoned about 30 seconds later, a police spokeswoman said.
No arrests have been made following the incident. The police Eagle helicopter was not involved in the pursuit.
Police chases have been a frequent occurrence in the city this year.
Early on Friday morning, police pursued a stolen vehicle along Ferry Rd before the driver crashed into a fence.
Police spotted the vehicle on Ferry Rd at 1.50am and signalled for it to stop.
The driver did not and continued to flee before colliding with a fence at a property on Cashel St.
The driver, a 31-year-old man, is facing a number of charges, including unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and failing to stop.
He is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court on March 2.
