No prosecution over death of electrician

WorkSafe will not be prosecuting after a young father was electrocuted and killed last year.

Tuainekore Uri-Ke, 30, died in November when working on an electrical fit-out in an office building on Victoria St.

Said a WorkSafe spokeswoman: “WorkSafe has completed its investigation and will not be taking any further action in relation to the incident. The matter will now be passed on to the coroner.”

Countrywide Group director Richard Diver, the company that owns the building, declined to comment on the investigation but said the incident was a “tragic and sad outcome for everyone involved.”

A GoFundMe page, started in November raised more than $18,500 for Mr Uri-Ke’s wife and young daughter.

The Victoria St building is beside businesses Mexicano’s, The Dirty Land and Saunders and Co. Nexia​ Chartered Accountants are on the top floor of the building.
