Burnt chips anyone? A Christchurch fish and chip shop had to be evacuated yesterday afternoon after a fire broke out in the kitchen.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said crews from the Wigram and Spreydon stations were called to the blaze at the Nottingham Fish Supply on Nottingham Ave, Halswell, about 2.45pm on Tuesday.

She said workers from the fish and chip shop, as well as the business next door, had already evacuated the premises when firefighters arrived at the scene.

The fire was contained and shop owner Tracy Chen said there was no damage. The shop re-opened again yesterday.
