A fire investigator will try to determine the cause of a blaze that badly damaged a two-storey apartment in Christchurch this morning.
Firefighters were called to the structure fire on Bordesley St, off Ferry Rd, in Phillipstown about 7.45am on Wednesday.
Fire and Emergency NZ said crews from the Christchurch City, Woolston and Spreydon stations responded to the call out.
The fire was already well-involved by the time the first crew arrived at the scene. It was brought under control by 8.18am.
Firefighters were still dampening down hotspots this morning and a fire investigator was due to arrive at the scene soon.
There were no reports of injuries. The apartment was not thought to be occupied at the time.
Fenz said the fire investigator would work to determine the cause of the blaze but it was not being treated as suspicious.
“This is a reminder to ensure that you have working smoke alarms in every bedroom, hallway and living area in each level of your house,” they said.
