Reuben Davidson will step down as the board’s leader at a meeting on Monday and a new chair will be elected.
Davidson will stay on as a board member but would resign before the general election on October 14 when he will stand for Labour in the Christchurch East electorate.
Davidson said yesterday he has still not decided on a date to resign. His departure will trigger a by-election.
He has previously said he plans to resign close to the general election to minimise the cost to ratepayers of the by-election.
City council electoral officer Jo Daly told Bay Harbour News the by-election to fill the Lyttelton Subdivision seat would cost about $35,000.
Davidson said he will continue to represent the Lyttelton Subdivision until he resigns.
“I’m still really committed to serving that community.”
Community board member Tyrone Fields is ineligible for the chair role because he is the Banks Peninsula Ward city councillor.
The new board chair will be either deputy chair Nigel Harrison, board member for the Akaroa Subdivision, Cathy Lum-Webb, member for the Lyttelton Subdivision, Howard Needham member for the Mt Herbert Subdivision, Luana Swindells also a member for the Mt Herbert Subdivision, Lyn
Leslie board member for the Wairewa Subdivision, or Asif Hussain, board member for the Akaroa Subdivision.
