Emergency services were called to the crash at the intersection of Halswell Junction and Shands roads at about 7.34am.
Christchurch Transport Operations Centre said two-way traffic has been restored on Shands Rd, but the road is "restricted".
The intersection was cleared about 10am, but contractors will be on site fixing a signal pole.
"Motorists who travel home this way should consider using an alternative route," said a CTOC spokesman.
