Christchurch city councillor James Gough is in self isolation for two weeks after returning from Australia on Wednesday.

The fourth term city councillor and Canterbury District Health Board member arrived back from Melbourne yesterday with his family after travelling there on Friday to watch the Australian Grand Prix, which was cancelled due to Covid-19.

He and his family’s return came after the Government imposed order for all arrivals to self-isolate for 14 days.

“We will make do. I guess it will mean a lot of Uber Eats orders and dialling into meetings where I can,” he said.

“Ironically, my first meeting back will be with the CDHB.

“It is certainly not ideal but I understand Covid-19 is a significant issue and everybody needs to be taking steps to contain it.”

He said watching the situation in New Zealand escalate while in Australia was “surreal”.

In spite of this, he said his two children, one 11 months and the other two-and-a-half-years-old, remained “blissfully unaware” of the situation.
