A climber has been flown to hospital after falling from Rapaki Rock on the outskirts of Christchurch.

Emergency services were called to the area about 9.40am today.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said firefighters from Governors Bay assisted in carrying the man to a waiting helicopter.

The spokesperson said the man has been flown to Christchurch Hospital for treatment.

The prominent crag at the top of the Rapaki walking track is popular with climbers. It is located in the Port Hills above Christchurch near the Sign of the Kiwi.
