“It wasn’t me.”

That was the short answer this week from the man who citizen detectives say may know something about the vandalism caused at Addington Cemetery.

About 200 metres of lawn was torn up at the cemetery, and nearby residents think it was from a quad bike.

Resident Maddie Brett was walking through the cemetery with her husband last Monday when she chanced on a man with a quad bike. She took photos of him as he pushed the broken-down quad bike away, posting them to the Addington Community

Facebook page, and filed an online report with the police.

From there other residents updated the report with a name and address of who they believe the man was. He lives near the cemetery.

Brett has not heard back from the police, and it appears they have not questioned the man with the quad bike.

The Star visited his house this week.

“Wasn’t me . . . I haven’t owned a quad for years,” he said.

He also said police had not spoken to him.

Police could not say yesterday if the man had been spoken to by police.

“Police will be following all available lines of inquiry relating to the incident which will include any information provided via 105 reports,” a spokesperson told The Star.
