Armed police respond to incident in city's east

The armed offenders squad responded to an incident in which a man was threatening people in Christchurch this morning.

A police spokeswoman said officers were called to Buckleys Rd, Linwood, about 8am due to reports that "a man was behaving in a threatening manner".

One person has now been arrested, she said.

"The armed offenders squad responded as a precaution due to the nature of the incident and cordons were put in place," she said.

"The man was arrested without incident and no one was injured.

"Staff remain at the scene."

Buckleys Rd was blocked off during the incident but has now reopened.
