Things appear to be finally clicking into gear for University.

They get a chance to go to up another level when they face Harbour tomorrow.

University bamboozled Alhambra-Union 83-10 last weekend and notched up their first win of the Dunedin premier club season.

Coach Russell Lundy was happy to get that win under their belt — "clearly we needed one" — and get the ball rolling.

"If we managed to get a roll on, like we did, [we needed] to stick to what we had planned, rather than starting to go individual", Lundy said.

"We were able to do that, I thought. I know we got some sort of turnover tries and things late in the game, but that just came from the pressure and the game that we were trying to play."

Wingers Jeremiah Asi, who scored a hat-trick, and Aaron McMurray had speed to burn out wide, and teamed well with Argentinian fullback Martin Bogado, and University finally started to exploit that.

"I mean, there’s no use having that if you don’t use it and that was part of our problem earlier on and last year", Lundy said.

"We didn’t get Jerry and the other guys enough ball ... and obviously having Martin out there is a bit of a bonus."

Bogado and lock Mitch Dunshea have been allocated from the Highlanders to University and both made an impact.

Dunshea, who played his first game for Varsity against AU, had a positive impact.

"Sometimes you see guys come and play club rugby that maybe don’t put the effort in — and he wasn’t like that at all.

"He was right into it, and right into it at training, and obviously played really well. Good on him", Lundy said.

Flanker Aaron Withy never plays a bad game and impressed his coach, who challenged others to lift to his level.

‘He’s just a really consistent performer and a great player and great team man. Really keen on seeing him go a bit further."

University are home tomorrow to a wounded Harbour Hawks team, who lost 86-10 to Green Island last week.

Harbour are winless after four games and are hungry for success — but Lundy points out so are University.

"We’ve got to win it as well ...

We lost those first two games, and the way that bye works ... we just need to capitalise [on] every chance we get."

Dunedin, who will be riding high after beating defending champions Southern, have another big game this week.

They head to Bishopscourt to play top-of-the-table Kaikorai, who remain unbeaten after three games.

Taieri are home to Green Island, and AU will host Zingari-Richmond, who are also unbeaten and fresh from a week off.

Southern have the bye.
