St Kilda lead way as Otago crews claim 26 medals


Otago crews hauled in an outstanding 26 medals at the New Zealand IRB Championships at the weekend.

Natalie Ashton, Jamie Vuglar, Emily Peacock and Madi Loudon (St Kilda) continued their success from the South Island competition earlier this month and combined to win the open team rescue at Waikouaiti.

Loudon and Peacock won the under-23 female assembly race and came second in the under-23 women’s mass rescue.

Vuglar and Ashton won bronze in the open female assembly race.

Fellow St Kilda members Danyon Noakes and Matt Lloyd were a strong pairing.

They finished first in the men’s under-23 mass rescue and second in the men’s under-23 single rescue, assembly rescue and tube rescue.

Holly Horo and Jody Mowat finished second for St Kilda in the open women’s tube rescue and Zoe Allibone and Amelia Loudon also finished second for in the under-19 female tube rescue.

St Clair also had a great weekend.

Charlotte Underwood-Nicol and Mereana Martin won the women’s under-23 tube rescue and Emma Christophers and Mia Stout won the under-19 edition.

Underwood-Nicol and Martin finished third in the women’s under-23 mass rescue and Christophers and Stout finished third in the women’s under-19 assembly rescue.

There was good success among the masters grades as well.

St Kilda won eight medals, St Clair and Brighton won two apiece.
