Dunedin tyro Alexis Owen has made an impressive start to the world junior championships in El Salvador.
Owen showed his talent with one of the top heat scores of the day in the under-16 boys competition, surfing three waves for an 8.2 and a 7.5.
"The waves were super fun today. I knew I needed to be on a big one, so I sat and waited. Sure enough, that bomb came through and that set me up for the heat."
Owen will face surfers from Germany, Australia and France in the next round.
