Surf life-saving: Trembath claims six gold medals at world champs

Otago Boys' High School pupil Andrew Trembath has played a starring role for the New Zealand youth team at the world interclub championships in France.

Trembath was wallowing in medals after the final youth events.

He initially dominated the pool events, claiming all three of the New Zealand team's individual gold medals - the 200m obstacle swim, the 100m rescue medley and the 100m manikin carry with fins - and helped the men's 4x50m obstacle relay and 4x50m rescue medley relay teams win gold.

Trembath was then part of New Zealand teams that won gold in the men's board rescue, men's tube rescue and the oceanman relay.

Papamoa (Bay of Plenty) finished top of the table in the youth division of the world interclub championships.

In the open division, New Zealand athletes won a gold, two silver and four bronze medals.

The only gold was won by world beach flags champion Chanel Hickman, representing Australian club Currumbin Beach.
