Yeo picks up where he left off

Sung Jin Yeo’s affinity with the NZPGA Championship continues.

Yeo fired an impressive 7-under-65 to be the equal leader after the opening day at Hastings Golf Club yesterday.

He is tied at the top with Auckland professional Mason Lee after a stunning opener to the championship, where 33 players shot par or better, including four of the nine invited amateurs.

Auckland representatives Robby Turnbull and Joshua Bai are a shot behind the leaders in equal third.

The NZPGA Club Professionals Championship is being run in conjunction with the PGA of New Zealand’s marquee event. Pieter Zwart and Richard Lee are leading the way in that with 4-under-68s in a tie for ninth.

However, the 92-player field is chasing last year’s runner-up at Gulf Harbour Country Club as Yeo set the early pace with his solid opening round yesterday morning.

Yeo made eight birdies and a bogey to begin his title quest, hitting almost every fairway and green as he looks to go one place better than last year.

"I hit it really well today and hit plenty of good putts too," he said after his round.
