Chisholm Links posts first victory

Playing at home, Chisholm Links posted its first win in this year's Metropolitan senior A pennant series when beating series leader Island Park 4-2 on Saturday.

The win lifts the Links team off the bottom of the table while, despite the loss, Island Park remains in the lead with six points and 10.5 games.

However, with a match in hand, the defending Otago team also has six points and is in second place, just one game behind Island Park. These two teams meet in the fourth round at Balmacewen next Saturday.

Michael Smith led the way for Island Park beating Peter Rae 7 and 5 in the battle of the No1 players.

No2 Phil Bungard beat Chisholm captain Mark Collie on the penultimate green but the other four games went to the Links players.

No3 Jason Pegler, No5 Kyle Geary and No6 Matt Heaton all had convincing wins and the contest went Chisholm's way when No4 MacKenzie Gibson won on the final green at the expense of Mike Wray.

At Taieri, Otago team won the top five matches as former Queenstown player Callum Judkins made his debut in the town competition beating Callum Stringer on the 15th green.

For Otago, Ben Patston and Nick Borren posted 6 and 5 wins while Luke Murdoch and Howard Maxwell gave the team five wins.

Taieri's only success came when No6 Ian Boath beat Thomas Gillan 4 and 3.
