Anything possible in Royals-Canterbury clash

It is a game that is there for the taking.

Dunedin City Royals are back home at Tahuna Park where they will play newcomers University of Canterbury in the Southern League clash this afternoon.

The Royals come in off the back of a 5-0 loss to unbeaten frontrunners Christchurch United.

University of Canterbury also lost last week 1-0 to Nelson Suburbs.

Neither team has notched up a win this season, and sit eighth and ninth respectively, but the Royals have secured a draw against fifth-placed Ferrymead Bays a fortnight ago at home.

They will want to draw from that last performance to get on the board.

The Royals women will play a curtain raiser when they go up against top-of-the-table Roslyn-Waikari in the South Island qualifying league game.

The Royals have had a couple of weeks off, but made a commanding start with a 10-0 win against Green Island at the start of the month.

But while they have been taking a break, Roslyn have marched ahead to bank the top spot.

They dispatched Queens Park 4-0 and Northern 8-0 thanks to leading goal scorers Emma Black and Hannah Hargest.

Northern and Green Island also get the chance for their first points on the board when they meet today.

Both teams have dropped their opening two games and will target this game to get their seasons under way.

Queens Park and Otago University — who are also unbeaten after two games — have the bye.

In the ODT Men’s Southern Premiership, unbeaten Mosgiel will make the trip to Ellis Park to face Roslyn.

The Royals host Queens Park in an intriguing encounter, Wanaka hosts Northern, who are also unbeaten, and Otago University will play Queenstown. Green Island hosts Northern Hearts at Sunnyvale.
