The Invercargill woman, who the Otago Daily Times will not identify to protect her daughter, was shocked by the comments made by the Invercargill mayor last week.
Mr Clark spoke about the resignation of Nigel Skelt, who was the general manager of ILT Stadium and an Invercargill city councillor at the time a complaint of inappropriate behaviour towards a female stadium employee was raised against him.
Mr Clark had been directly involved in dealing with the situation and said he knew the family "very well" and they had told him they appreciated the work he did.
Speaking yesterday, the woman said his statement was inaccurate, as neither she nor her family had had any dealings with the mayor before the episode.
"My first conversation ever with Mr Clark was regarding my daughter’s situation.
"I have had no previous conversations, no relationship of any sort prior to that."
She also denied having any conversations after the resolution, saying she was not allowed to because the matter was referred to lawyers with whom they liaised.
The woman was distressed about the comments, saying the family were not pleased with the outcome — and especially the media attention.
However, she said she felt forced to speak out after reading what she called untrue statements made by the mayor.
"I am absolutely appalled because we are certainly not pleased with the outcome ...
"If he had dealt with us in a professional, open and honest manner, this would not have grown into such media attention.
"This is beyond what it should have been."
She said the situation was really hard for her daughter, who wished to deal with it in her own private space.
"She’s getting there, but it’s not getting any easier for her to put behind."
Mr Clark declined to comment yesterday because he gave the family "a commitment of confidentiality".
