Bluff stevedore dislocates knee on boat

A Bluff stevedore dislocated his knee while working in the hold of a ship and has been sent to hospital for observation.

A Maritime spokesman said paramedics treated the man on site and he was transported to hospital this morning.

It was not taking the matter further.

A St John spokeswoman earlier said that one person was in moderate condition after being injured on a boat in Bluff.

She explained the ambulance service was called at 9.03am to Wharf Bluff in Foreshore Rd.

"One ambulance and one rapid response unit responded to the scene and St John treated one patient in a moderate condition and transported them to Southland Hospital."

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said it assisted ambulance crews in lifting the patient.

He was unsure of the size or name of the boat.
