Clutha district newborns have been warmly welcomed this year thanks to donations of knitted clothing to Clutha Health First’s (CHF) maternity ward.

CHF’s maternity and midwifery department received an "abundance" of knitted newborns’ singlets, beanies, booties and more after putting the call out for items.

"The maternity team put out a call to the public back at the start of February for some clothing for our local newborns," CHF maternity team leader Michelle Thomson said.

"We tend to have some people who do some knitting for us every year, but we came to be basically out of knitted items, especially singlets."

The department has since received many knitted newborn items and were keen to thank the various groups and individuals who had given their resources and time to give to babies born in the local hospital.

"We provide items for families on a needs basis, and we have plenty of families who are very happy going home with a new life in some cool, warm clothes, especially now we’re getting to winter time," Mrs Thomson said.

"We’re super grateful for people’s contribution to providing our newborns with something warm to wear home.

"Some people have not left their contact details for us to thank them so this is a good way to thank them.

"It goes to show that we have such an incredibly supportive community."
