A hot summer's day drew more than 1000 people to the 148th annual Tokomairiro A&P Show at Milton on Saturday.

The show featured a variety of trade stalls, a cabre toss and gumboot throwing competitions, in addition to the usual judging of animals, rides, and sideshow entertainment.

Hundreds gathered to witness the crowning of the 2013 Tokomairiro A&P Show Queen. The show queen competition returned last year after a 20-year absence. Milton couple Sue and Ross Clark reinstated it.

There were eight contestants this year.

Sixteen-year-old Lydia Hammersley was named Show Queen, and also won the Miss Friendship title which was chosen by the contestants.

Olivia Adam (17) was runner-up. Georgia Pringle (16) was second runner-up and Miss Public Vote. Abbie McKay (16) was named Miss Photogenic and Miss Personality.
