Some of the world’s most inspiring action, environmental, cultural and adventure films screen at Queenstown Memorial Centre next Wednesday and Thursday as the annual Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour launches its New Zealand leg.

Separate programmes — featuring the best films submitted to the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival in Canada each October — will be presented each night.

Pictured is an image from a seven-minute film screening Wednesday, Fuego, which features mountain bike rides in some of the world’s most beautiful spots including the Fuego volcano in Guatemala the day before its historic eruption in 2018.

Six films, running from 5 to 40 minutes, screen Wednesday and another seven, from four to 41 minutes, screen Thursday.

The NZ leg of the world tour’s hosted by NZ Alpine Club, for whom the film nights are its biggest fundraiser.
