Sheep removed from North Otago highway

Oamaru police had to wrangle two sheep on the loose north of the town on State Highway 1 this morning.

A police spokeswoman said they were told of the incident about 9am and the animals were in the area of the Boundary Creek Rd and SH1 intersection.

The person who contacted police tried knocking on doors to find out who owned them, she said.

The sheep were rounded up a short time later and put in a paddock.

Police have reported the incident to animal control the New Zealand Transport Agency's traffic operation centre.
