A five-year project  at Waimate High School culminated on June 1 when the school opened its new learning space for year 7 and 8 pupils.

Celebrating are (from left) principal Janette Packman, Waimate Mayor Craig Rowley, Associate Minister of Education Louise Upston and head prefects Daniel Buckingham (17) and Niamh O’Donnell (17).

Mrs Packman said  the $800,000 refurbishment of three classes into a new learning space was warmly received by teachers and pupils.

Mrs Packman said the building project started when teachers started talking about how the curriculum was delivered at the school.

"They wanted to do things differently."

She was pleased with the result and how the learning block looked,  and  said there was more to come for her school as they  rolled out upgrades where and when they could.
