Investigations continue

Site examinations of two house fires, at Hampden and at Herbert, continued yesterday.

The Hampden fire, on Saturday night, was not considered suspicious, while the early Monday Herbert fire was being treated as suspicious.

Police and Fire and Emergency New Zealand staff investigating the Herbert fire yesterday said it was still too early to release any findings.

Sergeant Blair Corlet, of Oamaru, said police spent several hours searching for a 15-year-old youth who was meant to be sleeping at the house on Sunday night.

A vehicle also missing from the house was found in the Herbert area later on Monday morning, and the boy was found in Oamaru about 1.40pm.

Police inquiries were ongoing, he said.
