Robbie Elliott (9), of Papakaio,  enjoyed  yesterday’s  children’s treasure hunt  at  Elephant Rocks, near Duntroon.

About 40 children scrambled over the landmark rocks to find tokens redeemable for items such as books and fossil discovery kits.

The treasure hunt was organised  by the Vanished World Centre as part of  its  open week.

Treasure hunt co-ordinator Ian Elliott was pleased with the turnout.

"Today’s all about encouraging people to come to Vanished World Trail."

Oamaru’s Tayne Curry (8) enjoyed being able to clamber all over the rocks.

When he grew up he wanted to be an adventurer, so he could find "crystals and stuff".

Robbie said his  favourite explorer was Sir David Attenborough.
