Moana Pool"s lazy river and waterfalls will be out of action for about three months as refurbishments at the facility continue, the council says.

In a statement yesterday, the council said its latest phase of refurbishment would include installation of a new ceiling in the area between the main pool and the leisure pool.

"The spa pool will remain operational, but access to the spa will be limited to stair use only.

"The leisure pool's lazy river, curtains and waterfalls will be inaccessible while work is under way," the statement said.

Work would begin next week and was expected to be completed in October, it said.

Council parks and recreation group manager Heath Ellis said the council acknowledged the refurbishment work would be "inconvenient for some users".

"We will do our best to minimise disruption as we continue a programme of work that aims to improve a much-loved community facility."

The installation of the new ceiling in the area between the main pool and the leisure pool would be completed in sections.

The first section extended from the staff entrance door to the lift.

There would be changes to access leading to the leisure and spa pools from the main pool area, during this time, it said.

Moana Pool's hydroslides were also out of action for up to five months.

They were closed for upgrades at the end of last month as part of the $25 million refurbishment project. — APL
