An armed offender was arrested in front of a busy crowd at Forsyth Barr Stadium on Saturday.

But, fortunately, it was all part of an exercise.

It occurred during the halftime break and livened up what was an otherwise drab Super Rugby Pacific match between the Highlanders and the Force.

It included a police car in hot pursuit of the offender, and then the release of the canine to track down the offender once the police and offender cars came to a stop in the middle of the playing field.

No-one was harmed in the exercise, although there might have been a few sore ears in the crowd from the siren noises.
