The change will also mean a new offering for fashion lovers in the in-between years.
The popular iD Dunedin Fashion Show and iD International Emerging Designer Awards have previously been held annually, though recent schedules were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
There will be no show next year, and the next will take place at the Dunedin Railway Station on April 4 and 5, 2025.
The show, which celebrated its 23rd anniversary this year, is a showcase of top New Zealand designers and the emerging designer awards focused on local and international talent.
Events around iD include exhibitions, runway shows, talks, fashion installations and films.
Margo Barton, iD board co-chairwoman and creative director, said the event took a lot of effort to put on every year and having it every two years would allow the team to make it an even better event.
"We didn’t actually have a show in 2022 and people didn’t realise that.
"That made us realise we could do the big show every second year and make it a really huge and fantastic show."
The move to being a two-yearly event would give iD more time to plan and secure funding, as well as market and communicate all the activities that comprised the week, she said.
In years when there was no iD Dunedin Fashion Show at the railway station, a new and smaller show would be held, Dr Barton said.
"The focus of that show is going to be sustainable dressing and sustainable designing, so we are very excited for that.
"It will be something entirely different. We are meeting with designer stakeholders in the next couple of weeks to work out exactly what that will look like."
