A police spokesperson said Sydney went missing in the Conical Hill area at Hanmer Springs yesterday and a search has been initiated.
His loved ones "have concerns for his wellbeing", the spokesperson said.
Police and Land Search and Rescue teams will search the area for Sydney on Monday.
Police also want to hear from anyone who may have seen Sydney or has information about his disappearance.
He was last seen wearing a red jersey and black pants with a green helmet and a fluorescent backpack, the spokesperson said.
