The library and Red Café on Main South Rd will be closed from Tuesday, April 11, to Sunday, April 30, to replace the bathrooms and upgrade the air conditioning, lighting systems and paintwork takes place.
The doors to the learning centre will also be replaced.
The upgrade was planned to coincide with the Riccarton High School holidays, but some work will continue into the first week of the school term.
The school, which holds some classes in the library learning centre, has reallocated these to accommodate the work.
“We have a rolling programme of renewal work across our libraries network and Upper Riccarton is the latest to benefit from this,” said Christchurch City Council head of libraries and information Carolyn Robertson.
“It’s important that we maintain our libraries to a high standard so they remain comfortable and welcoming spaces for the public to enjoy.”
The Red Café operates under a separate lease but will be utilising the closure period to upgrade the café service area.
During the three-week closure, reserved items will be available to collect from Fendalton Library unless otherwise requested, Robertson said.
Items cannot be returned to the Upper Riccarton Library during this period.
The mobile library will visit Upper Riccarton on Tuesdays from 10.30am–11.30am and Fridays, 3.30pm–4.30pm, during the closure.
