A 41-year-old man has been charged with threatening to kill, assault and kidnapping after armed police raided a Christchurch property on Monday night.
Police cordoned off a house on Wanaka Place in Mairehau last night and stationed officers in the street.
Police said this morning a 41-year-old man was eventually taken into custody after a negotiation.
He is facing several charges, including threatening to kill, assault and kidnapping.
Said Canterbury Metro Area Commander Superintendent Lane Todd: “Police took appropriate precautions to ensure the safety of nearby residents while responding to the situation."
He said a scene examination will take place today.
A nearby resident told Chris Lynch Media some homes were evacuated during the police operation.
