Funds for sit-ski

Wanaka man Quentin Smith said he was "blown away" by the support given and funds donated to buy him a sit-ski.

Mr Smith broke his back in a paragliding accident on April 12, 2008, which left him a paraplegic.

Wanaka climbing guide and New Zealand Mountain Film Festival director Mark Sedon decided to raise the funds to buy a sit-ski for the keen skier and paraglider.

Mr Sedon told mountain film festival-goers on Tuesday night that funds raised through a charity auction had reached the $7000 sit-ski target.

Being able to get back on the ski slopes was another way of focusing on the things he can still do, Mr Smith said.

He has recently trialled borrowed sit-skis, rigged up equipment which allows him to fly paragliders again, and has continued to pursue his interest in landscape photography.

"I've had some fantastic support from the local community. People have been great," Mr Smith said.
