The historic five-star hotel and four nearby Eichardt's lakefront cottage suites have been sold to Melbourne-based Imperium Capital Group (ICG), which holds a range of businesses, including some in the hospitality and leisure sector.
The sale went unconditional last Friday, and ICG was to take possession yesterday.
The hotel was previously owned by Highland Resort Ltd, whose co-director Stephen Fisher said he was "delighted" with the sale, but was unable to disclose the sale price.
Speaking to the Otago Daily Times last month, Mr Fisher said of an earlier deal with American billionaire Julian Robertson, the amount involved was under $1 million.
ICG managing director Andrew Cox said in a press release, ICG were passionate business operators looking forward to continuing to build the Eichardt's brand and existing luxury services, and working with other luxury partners in Queenstown.
Mr Cox said management at Eichardt's Private Hotel would remain the same, and stressed that the company was dedicated to the staff, and the community.
