The sprint was held beside the Oval and co-organiser Boyd Wilkinson said it attracted more than 1000 people.
"We were really pleased. We had a fantastic crowd, a really large crowd for quite a while, and the competitors loved it."
Mr Wilkinson said the event was planned to keep up the profile of the festival while the road race, which had not run for the past two years, was in hiatus.
It was hoped that event would return in 2011, but such was the success of the sprint, Mr Wilkinson said it would return next year.
