Brougham St reopened after truck fire in Christchurch

A busy section of State Highway 76 in central Christchurch has reopened after a truck and trailer caught fire on Tuesday.

Fire and Emergency NZ crews were called to the blaze at the intersection of Brougham St and Waltham Rd about 10am.

The driver of the truck escaped after the cab caught fire but was not hurt.

A Waka Kotahi NZTA Canterbury spokesperson said Brougham St was closed to eastbound traffic at the intersection but was fully reopened about 2pm.

"SH76 Brougham St is now flowing again normally after an earlier crash closed the two eastbound lanes at Waltham Rd."

Fire crews have extinguished the blaze and were investigating the cause.
