And his prize is winging its way to another player in Otago.
North Otago second five-eighth Billy Guyton (22) was entered into the Air New Zealand Biggest Boot competition in Christchurch by the North Otago Rugby Union earlier this month.
He booted a ball 59.9m, further than the 25 other contenders and won a trip for two to London to watch the All Blacks train and then play England at Twickenham in December.
Guyton said the North Otago union told him on Tuesday he would not be getting the prize - "because I play for North Otago".
The competition was closed to provincial rugby players, including those in the Heartland competition, even though the North Otago players were amateur, he said.
Guyton's mother, Stacey Dunn, of Oamaru, said she was disappointed for her son, especially since he paid his own way to compete in Christchurch.
North Otago union chief executive Colin Jackson said it had selected Guyton for the competition and took responsibility for entering an ineligible player.
However, there was a happy ending.
North Otago had offered to cover the cost of an alternative trip to London for Guyton.
A New Zealand Rugby Union spokesman said Pera Gibbs, who was second in the competition, would be awarded the prize.
The University of Otago student who plays for the Dunedin club could not be contacted yesterday.
