A feisty Southern A proved too powerful for Columba A on Saturday, notching up another big win in the Dunedin premier competition.
Southern dominated play from the first whistle, proving more assertive than its opposition and better able to convert possession into points.
Columba never posed a threat to top-of-the-table Southern which took the match 77-37.
Columba struggled to find a rhythm, interrupted by Southern's persistent defence.
This was especially noticeable in the goal third, where Southern shut down the circle, forcing Columba to take bigger risks.
Ambitious lobs into shooters were consistently stolen by Southern defenders, and midcourter Stacey Peeters laid on the pressure, making intercepts and exploiting errors in the Columba side.
Despite this, the game was not a complete walkover for Southern.
Columba wing attack Sarah Wood was the standout player of the match, always on hand to help teammates or rattle opponents.
She managed to break free of Southern defenders and created space through the court, helping shift ball to Columba feeders.
Southern shooter Alanna Smith also had a strong game, sinking some incredible goals and working hard outside the circle to retain ball.
By the third quarter, Columba had adapted to a faster and more dynamic style of netball.
However, the school team was still unable to catch the high-scoring Southern.
In Saturday's other matches, University-Albion A beat College A 60-48 and Phys Ed B pipped Southern B 60-59.
