Football: Brockie's future revolves around All Whites

Off-contract forward Jeremy Brockie has revealed the United States as a possible destination for the next stop in his football career.

The All Whites utility will become a free agent next month after completing a two-year spell with the Newcastle Jets and was back in his hometown of Nelson during the past week for his stag do.

With his wedding just a month away, Brockie could tie the knot with a new team before he confirms his vows as he looks to secure his future on the pitch.

Brockie has two offers on the table from A-League clubs, interest from Asia and has spoken to one franchise from Major League Soccer in the United States.

He remained tight-lipped on the name of the American franchise, but the Wellington Phoenix have mentioned they would entertain the idea of signing Brockie and the A-League club are also coached by All Whites supremo Ricki Herbert.

Brockie said his next career move would revolve around the 2014 Fifa World Cup after he was in the New Zealand squad for the 2010 edition in South Africa.

"There's another two years until the next World Cup, so I'm going to be factoring my decision around still wanting to be in a league that is going to help to stay in the All White fold,'' he said.

"I don't want to go to a league that will dampen my chances of playing for the national team. I'm not too worried about the money, not for the next couple of years anyway.''

The Jets are in danger of folding after Hunter Sports Group owner Nathan Tinkler surprisingly handed back his license to Football Federation Australia last week.

Brockie could not agree to a new deal last month, but following HSG's announcement it seems his future would have laid outside Newcastle either way.

"I feel very sorry for the sponsors and the supporters. They averaged over 12,000 members last year, so for those people that paid to support us over the last seven seasons would have been very disappointed. But hopefully they can get something sorted and the Jets can stay in the league.''

The former Nelson Suburbs, Canterbury United, New Zealand Knights and North Queensland Fury player scored nine goals in a breakthrough season with the Jets this year.

He said his decision on a new club would come in the next three weeks, but he was holding out for more overseas offers.

"Over the next couple of weeks I'll concentrate on the wedding as much as I can, but this is my last month of being paid by the Jets so it would be nice to have a contact signed and ready to carry on.''

Brockie said it had always been a dream of his to ply his trade in a well-known overseas league and was waiting to see if any offers pop up from around Europe.

"That's the only thing that has eluded me so far.''

Brockie's time in Nelson wasn't all partying; he managed to spend a week at a football holiday programme held at his childhood club Richmond Athletic.
