Football: Ownership issues no distraction for Roar

Brisbane Roar coach Ange Postecoglou says his club will have no problem blocking out off-field issues when it plays the Phoenix in Dunedin tonight.

The defending A-League champion Roar, like the Phoenix, has had its share of financial difficulties and is owned by Football Federation Australia.

But Postecoglou, who is also waiting to hear whether talismanic midfielder Matt McKay has received a work permit to join Scottish club Rangers, said the ownership issue had not caused any disruption to the team.

"Zero, to be honest," he said after a Roar training session at Forsyth Barr Stadium yesterday.

"We'll be in a much better position if we do get an owner. But right now, we're ticking along normally. The ownership question was probably there last year, too.

"There are no issues on either side of the fence. When owners come in, they'll take over a club that is very well run."

McKay will find out today if he can join Rangers, while the Roar has left behind underdone new signing Sayed Mohamed Adnan, who missed a penalty for Bahrain against the All Whites in Wellington two years ago.

Postecoglou was impressed with Dunedin's new stadium.

"It's great, fantastic. It's always nice to play in a new stadium but this is a little bit different to a normal one. The surface is great - in as good a condition as turf can be.

"Once you get a crowd in here it will be a good atmosphere because everyone is close to the action."

The Roar has three pre-season games against other A-League games. Postecoglou said all were significant in terms of preparation but he wouldn't be reading too much into the results.
