Mystery Paris parcels perplex Coasters

West Coast residents have received surprise parcels from France containing money in what police say appears to be a goodwill gesture from Parisians.

Police said four of the packages have been received by people in the Greymouth and Hokitika areas in the past week.

The parcels, sent from Paris, all contain either a hairdryer or hair clippers and cash.

Most either have two 50 euro notes, although one of the parcels had a $100 note.

The recipients have no idea who has sent them.

Police have not made any criminal connection with the parcels at this stage and say they appear to simply be a goodwill gesture; however, they would like to hear from anyone else who has received a parcel.

Recipients should contact Greymouth Police on 03 7681600
