Clutha Valley Primary School pupils received instruction from professional artist Caley Hill last week.
Mr Hall, who is from Invercargill but now lives in Stirling, visited the school on Thursday and taught pupils how to improve their painting skills.
"The skills they learned is all they need to be a professional,'' he said.
At the end of the day, each child had their own completed painting of Milford Sound.
Mr Hall said he was discouraged from pursuing art as a child as it was deemed an unrealistic profession.
However, his passion was reignited in adulthood, as he realised he was not suited to traditional 9 to 5 working hours, and he now made a living out of painting.
There was no reason children today could not achieve the same thing, he said.
Mr Hall is well known for his landscape and abstract art.
