The unusually warm April came to a wintry end in South Otago yesterday.

Lynley Collie said she awoke to a light coating of snow over the family farm at Clinton yesterday morning.

"By early morning the rain had melted away most of the snow, but by 11am we had another good coating. Thick blobs of snow came down and it was all melted again by about 2.30pm."

Mrs Collie estimated about 2cm to 3cm of snow fell yesterday.

"The last time it snowed in April it was 1995 and we had just shifted here," she said.
