Butterfield not talking

As speculation swirls around who might lead the next Southern District Health Board, former South Canterbury District Health Board chairman Joe Butterfield would not comment last night on whether he was in the running.

"I can't comment on whether I am or not," he said suggesting the Otago Daily Times should direct inquiries to Health Minister Tony Ryall.

Mr Ryall said last night no recommendations for a possible replacement for present chairman Errol Millar had been taken to Cabinet for approval yet, so any names were "only speculation".

The health minister has previously stated all appointments would be made at the end of this month.

Mr Butterfield, a chartered accountant from Timaru, stood down from the South Canterbury chairmanship at the end of last year after completing the nine consecutive years allowed for such positions.
