Remanded in custody

A 17 year old Oamaru dairy worker has been remanded in custody on a charge relating to the alleged armed robbery of the Meadowbank Dairy in Oamaru on Monday night.

Matthew Robert Johnston, of no fixed abode, appeared in the Dunedin District Court yesterday and was remanded on a registrar's adjournment in custody with his agreement to appear again in the Oamaru District Court on February 11.

Johnston was charged with, being armed with an offensive weapon (a knife) he robbed the dairy of tobacco, papers and filters on January 26.

He also faced two further charges of, dishonestly and without claim of right but not so as to be guilty of theft, he took a Kia Rio valued at $23,000 from Hull St on January 25 or 26, and entering a Hull St house with intent to commit an imprisonable offence.

No pleas were entered.
