Budding writers will get professional advice from New Zealand young adult fiction writer Kate De Goldi when she visits Oamaru next month.
The Janet Frame Eden Street Trust is bringing Ms De Goldi to Oamaru on Friday and Saturday, May 10 and 11, to conduct creative writing classes for pupils at Waitaki Girls' High School on the Friday and again for the public, who have to register, at Waitaki Girls' Learning Centre and the Janet Frame house in Eden St from 9.30am on Saturday.
At 6pm on the Friday, she will give a free public lecture at the Oamaru Library. Ms De Goldi writes short stories, young adult and children's books, and journalism pieces. She also presents book reviews on radio and television. She has won the American Express and Katherine Mansfield Memorial awards for short stories, and the New Zealand Post Book of the Year award twice.
