Waimate police yesterday named the victim of Tuesday's head-on road accident on State Highway 1 as Mark David Buckley (16), from Palmerston.
Waimate-Mackenzie Police sub-area supervisor Sergeant Mike van der Heyden said Mr Buckley was travelling south on State Highway 1, when his car collided head-on with a truck and trailer unit heading north near Glenavy, about 4.35pm.
The teenager, who was the sole occupant of the car, died at the scene.
"Mr Buckley's vehicle has crossed the centre line into the path of the on coming truck and the Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating the cause of this accident."
