North Otago's diverse cultures will come together for a concert at the end of the month to celebrate Race Relations Day.
The March 31 event, in the Oamaru Opera House, was organised each year by the Waitaki Multicultural Council with a different theme to promote harmonious race relations, event co-ordinator Sandra Tonkin said.
This year's theme is "Aotearoa, A Fair Go for All".
The concert will have performances from some of the estimated 50 ethnic groups in North Otago, including Japanese, South American, Indian, Irish, Filipino, Pacific Islands, Scottish and Polish.
Special guests include Waitaki Mayor and Mayoress Alex and Heather Familton, and representatives from the Ministry of Social Development and Internal Affairs.
Former Dunedin mayor Peter Chin will be a guest performer.
Other related events include a poster competition for schools, an essay contest for high school pupils, an art gallery display at Forrester Gallery, a shoe display at the North Otago Museum, a display in the Oamaru Library and public film screening of a cultural film First Grader at Oamaru Movie World on March 28.
